Heartbreak

We’ve all been there, we’ve all had our heart broken, but it’s how we bounce back from it which shapes us. In that moment when it feels like the very worst thing we will ever experience in our lives, and that we feel like we can’t breathe without that other person, it can be hard to focus on the positives. Whether the heartbreak is due to the end of a relationship which we weren’t ready to come out of, or of that awful unrequited type, it still hurts.

The most important thing to do after heartbreak is to focus on the positives. Focus on whatever it is that is bringing you joy, whether it’s your friends, your family, a pet, a holiday you are looking forward to – whatever it is, just focus on that. Yes that is easier said than done but it’s a great place to start.

Whatever the reason the relationship ended (or was a non starter in the first place) don’t let that be what you focus on. It’s hard enough in the world we live in today without feeling worse about ourselves for a reason which we didn’t even think about 5 minutes ago. We are made differently for a reason – the world would be a very boring place if we were all the same, so if someone doesn’t love you for who you are then they aren’t the person for you – no matter what you are thinking right now. There is someone out there who will love you for you, and much as you probably don’t want to hear this – actually it’s ok to be single. It is better to be on your own than with someone who will bring you down or not love you for you. You deserve so much more and I hope that in those dark moments you can see that. Just remember – you are beautifully made!
